Adil’s three linked short stories accompanied by photographs constitute an innovative series of literary and visual creative engagements with Islamic literatures and symbolism. ‘Night of Destiny: a fictional autobiography’ in Critical Muslim No. 5 ‘Love and Death’ January 2013; ‘The Beauty of Men’ in Critical Muslim No. 8 ‘Men in Islam’ October 2013 and ‘Nine Postcards from San Lucar’ in Critical Muslim No. 6 ‘Reclaiming Al-Andalus’ June 2013, which was co-authored with Professor Aamer Hussein, deploy visual and literary poetics in order to explore the current political and personal divisions at the intersection of Muslim and occidental cultural imaginaries.
