This paper was one of the first studies to show that large eukaryotic cells could be trapped in an optical tweezer system and demonstrated that a range of prostate and bladder cells could be separated by this method. This established that such a system could be used as a viable diagnostic tool. This work has led to invitations as an invited speaker at international conferences. Several other research groups now use this method and led to an invitation to write a review of the field. Integrative Biology, 1 (2009) 43-52
