This peer-reviewed essay looks at the literary mapping of Tangier in Goytisolo’s text Coto Vedado, alongside his novel Paisajes Después de la Batalla, set in Paris. It argues that the ‘psychogeographical’ techniques in both works are drawn from Goytisolo’s membership of the international situationniste in Paris in the latest 1950s, a fact unknown to critics and commentators on Goytisolo until recently. This essay is also based on interviews with the author and Goytisolo in Tangier.
