Additional information

<12> On the basis of this paper, one of the authors, M. Mnich, received the Royal Dutch Mathematical Society Philips Prize for 2010. The results and approaches presented in the paper have allowed G. Gutin, L. van Iersel, M. Mnich, and A. Yeo to subsequently prove [J. Comput. Syst. Sci. 78 (2012), 151-163] that all ternary permutation constraint satisfaction problems parameterized above average have kernels with a quadratic number of variables. The research has been presented in invited talks at WorKer 2011 and London Combinatorics Colloquia 2012.
