Additional information

The paper reports on the importance of the layout and spacing of an array of tidal stream turbines and the associated hydro-environmental impacts, based on predictions obtained using a refined open source in-house numerical model (DIVAST). By predicting the differences in the potential power output and peak tidal currents, for different stages of the tide, the model highlights the significance of predicting variations in these parameters during site selection. The model is being used to select the ideal sites for deployment of tidal stream turbines in the Severn Estuary, in collaboration with Tidal Energy Ltd (chris.williams@tidalenergyltd.com, Case Study 1).
