Additional information

This paper reports the first use of Digital Image Correlation (DIC) in a geotechnical centrifuge and its application to laterally loaded masonry walls. This technique allowed deflections over the entire wall panel to be measured. It also captured failure processes not previously identified in either small-scale or prototype tests. In addition, the work partially validated an existing code-based yield line analysis procedure, whilst also identifying significant flaws with this standard analysis method which need to be addressed in future codes of practice.
