Women in the Weimar Republic
This monograph (120,000 words) involved the collection and analysis of a considerable body of primary and secondary sources. The primary sources which included personal and parliamentary papers, material from Reich ministries, political parties, trades unions and women’s organisations, and contemporary published material, including surveys, magazines and newspapers, were consulted in fourteen Federal, State, local and specialist archives in Germany and the Deutsche Staatsbibliothek, Munich. The book makes accessible to English-speaking readers a synthesis and analysis of the latest works written in German and is the first sustained analysis of women’s role in the Weimar Republic.
