Additional information

The paper gives evidence of cross-linking between phosphate chains in phosphate glasses. The traditional belief is that metal cations interact with phosphate chains - using combined computer modelling with neutron diffraction showed for the first time the structural interaction at mid-range (ie 3-6 Angstroms) demonstating how divalent cations interact between phosphate chains and explaining for the first time the effect of increased chemical durability.
