Novel methods to tackle the problem of moment-based shape orientation and symmetry classification are presented in a study that unifies moment-based approaches in a single framework. This work was funded by the Systems Engineering for Autonomous Systems Defence Technology Centre. Due to the successful results the team obtained additional 3 year funding, participated in cluster projects (TIGER I and II funded by SELEX Gallileo) and collaborated with other UK universities and industries. Continuation of the proposed work resulted in a cluster of publications and produced a number of conference and journal papers including 2 IEEE Transactions and two ICASSP papers.
