Additional information

This paper presents a novel approach combining hydrological, hydraulic and glaciological methods to estimate peak flow of a dambreak. This work led to further publication and collaborations with other researchers worldwide. This work also led to an ongoing collaboration with CIEP (www.ciep.cl) and Chilean Water Authority. Helped secure funding by Natural Resources Defence Council and Heinrich Boll Foundation (2010-11). This work was an important first step towards baseline studies of a pristine region and the risk assessment of a US$7 billion hydropower dam project (Chile has been for some years a member of OECD). Output from the PBCT-Conicyt-WorldBank ACI-70 grant.
