Additional information

This research is part of Collins’ ongoing investigations into scenography and performance composition. The article was developed from a conference paper ‘Peacocks and Buffaloes on campus in Hyderabad’ delivered as part of the panel ‘The Bottom Line: social relations and market determinations’ convened by Collins at ‘Performance Studies International’ in Leeds, July 2012. The article reflects on a practice-based investigation of the application of the spatial theories of social geographer Doreen Massey as a starting point for performance. It considers the value of Massey’s ideas on space, place and displacement in the context of scenography. This research has led to a partnership being established between Hyderabad University and the University of the Arts London, funded by UKIERI (UK- India Education and Research Initiative) from September 2013 to investigate: ‘Scenography in a digital age; a comparative study of the impact of new media on contemporary Indian and British performance practice.’
