The paper describes a novel navigation, guidance and control system for a multi-role unmanned surface vehicle which forms part of the work funded from the EPSRC Grant GR/S76762/01. Also in part, this paper resulted from long-term collaborative work with a leading Italian marine systems researcher (Professor A Tiano, University of Pavia).The grant being rated overall as 'Tending to Outstanding' with the research quality being judged as Internationally Leading. One reviewer commented: The paper presents a very interesting practical study involving the development of an USV and its systems. The paper laid the foundation for the follow on EPSRC Grant EP/1012923/1.
