Additional information

This paper links the results of experimental adhesion assessment of coatings on architectural glass with the modelling necessary to extract quantitative adhesion parameters from the test results. For the first time good agreement between theoretical calculations of interface structure and energy and experimentally determined values was successfully demonstrated for a real engineering system. The research was funded through an EPSRC multiscale modelling grant (EP/C006852/1; £174k), with collaboration from Pilkington plc (now NSG) who used the results from the project to optimise their Optitherm product (contact: Paul Warren, paul.warren@nsg.com).
