This publication contributed significantly to (i) the establishment of the Flowers Consortium in Synthetic Biology (Imperial, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Newcastle and KCL) initiated and led by the authors of this study (Kitney, Freemont), (ii) the £6.1M EPSRC Flowers award (EP/J02175X/1 2012; Kitney, PI) and (iii) a major UK effort to develop tools and standards for synthetic biology (in collaboration with the Universities of Berkley and Stanford). Resulting presentations: 2011 BioFAB, seminars at Stanford University and MIT, 2012 Edinburgh University, Bristol University, Crick Symposium, Majorca, CSIRO, ST-Flow Conference, Segovia, FERA. 2013 Clare College International Conference.
