This monograph is based on years of original research. It makes use of previously unused archival and private collections on three continents (which only through extensive detective work and the use of new technology could be identified). Due to the sheer amount of qualitative and quantitative sources used, as well as their complex nature, the major insights of this study (relating to several distinct areas of study) could only be arrived at after a very lengthy period of research.
