A theoretical and experimental investigation of intumescent behaviour in protective coatings for structural steel
This paper presents results of a DTI sponsored project (KTP006492) with International Paint (IP) to develop a comprehensive mathematical model to predict the performance of thermally protective coatings for structural steel. These coatings are designed to expand on heating creating a thermal barrier and represent a significant portion of IP's product portfolio (~£30M/year). The model is now a key component of IP's research program (paul.jackson@akzonobel.com). Since publication, the paper has been cited in other researcher's work (Di Blasi et al. 2013) and has also resulted in an invited presentation at the European Coatings Conference, September, 2013 in Duesseldorf, Germany.
