Iordanova's contribution was conceptual leadership, structural concept and commissioning to bring together contributions from both academics and practitioners; international networking and coordination; editing and promotion. This peer-reviewed volume has been adopted for teaching in over twenty countries. Several of the essays, including Iordanova's text 'The Film Festival Circuit' are regularly used in film festival research. The book is important in that it was the inaugural volume of the series of Film Festival Yearbooks (five volumes published so far) and set the tone and direction for a burgeoning field.
