La formazione dell'identita' nello spazio pubblico europeo: prospettive teoriche a confronto'
Drawing on Cederman’s (2000) model, this sets out possible scenarios for the development of European identity that transcends the nation state, examining possible options for the development of a European transnational public space that allows for citizens’ political identification with the EU. The article concludes that framing discussions about European identity in the context of a binary (EU-nation state) is no longer sustainable. This narrative needs to be superseded by a dynamic and complex model of multilevel public space that accounts for overlapping layers of cultural and political identification.
