Additional information

Multi-scale considerations have enabled, for the first time, a computational model to be formulated, based on a thermodynamically consistent set of differential equations for hygro-thermal transport. The application of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance for measuring spatially resolved moisture distributions was used to validate the model, and constitutes a novel approach in wood science. This research contributed to the award of a €1.2M project (Austrian Research Promotion Agency # 832803), co-funded by the European Association of Woodworking Industries (50%) and the Association of Austrian Timber Industries. K De Borst published this paper under her maiden name K Hofstetter.
