Additional information

This paper resulted from a collaboration between the Nottingham spintronics group and the Prague and Texas groups. It reports a breakthrough in the understanding of the magnetic properties of ferromagnetic semiconductors that are based on materials synthesised using methods developed by Campion and Gallagher. Gallagher designed the samples, supervised the measurements and carried out the data analysis. Jungwirth, Namec and Gallagher wrote the first draft of the paper. Gallagher was principal investigator on grants funding the work.
