A fragile metabolic network adapted for cooperation in the symbiotic bacterium Buchnera aphidicola
<28> Originality: First systems-level analysis of a biologically-realistic model of a small-genome symbiotic bacterium Buchnera aphidicola (APS) incorporating cofactor constraints and export of essential amino acids.
Significance: Flux balance analysis is applied to explore the distribution of metabolite flux across the network, optimised to maximise biomass production. Single gene deletions are analysed by the linear minimisation of metabolic adjustment method. Sheds light on the evolution and function of APS and demonstrates that APS does not conform to the generality that metabolic networks are complex and robust.
Rigour: The model is available at the Bio-Models computational models repository as MODEL7434234848.
