Do older patients' perceptions of safety highlight barriers that could make their care safer during organisational care transfers?
Dawson was principal investigator, contributing distinctively to originality and significance of the research. Scott led on data collection and analysis, contributing distinctively to rigour and originality. The paper is original in presenting novel work involving patients in identifying safety risks. No previous theoretical explanations had considered patient perceptions of safety in organisational care transfers. Dawson developed the proposal and funding; established the partnership with the North East SHA and designed the methodology. Scott designed specific data collection methods; recruited patients; collected and analysed data; and developed the original mapping of new theoretical concepts onto the Swiss Cheese model of safety.
