The research carried out within work-package 1, co-ordinated by Haas, funded by the 4.5 year €7M MAESTRO EU project involving 25 partners (FP6/CE/LSHC/CT/2004/503564 Regis Hugon, Project Coordinator, Regis.HUGON@cea.fr ) originated from the TCS/KTP 3787, £90k (awarded both GRADE 1 and KTP Prize). The research was the first to: propose nonlinear couch models, and use model predictive control and tracking error dependent dose rate. It established the capabilities of the standard Elekta Precise TableTM for motion compensation and was demonstrated using the new MAESTRO phantom. The research led to the invitation to evaluate the VERO stereotactic body radiotherapy prototype (Brainlab/Mitsubishi) http://www.vero-sbrt.com/.
