English abstract

Information about the musical chapel of the collegiate church of Orihuela in the C16 is scarce. Nonetheless an inventory of polyphonic music dated before 1562 sheds light on the chapel’s repertory. The content of the inventory raises several issues. On the one hand, the significant number of prints suggests that printed music was used in Spanish chapels to a larger extent than previously thought; on the other hand, the high proportion of non-Spanish works challenges the idea that the penetration of international repertory in Spanish ecclesiastical institutions was low. The appendix gives new data of the institution’s C16 chapelmasters.
