Improved optimization strategy for irradiance equalization in dynamic photovoltaic arrays
Significance of output:
A paper which highlights the benefits of an optimization strategy for electrical rather than physical reconfiguration of PV panels, and demonstrates more than a 10% improvement in PV power efficiency. The work is based upon a radical new optimization algorithm that operates within a fraction of a second - previous approaches took minutes or even hours to converge. The concept described in this paper led to: the subsequent receipt of a best paper award at the IEEE PEDG conference; industrial collaborations with Prometheus (stuartrbarnes@btinternet.com) and ASV Global (dan@asvglobal.com); EPSRC Capital Grant for Great Technologies http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/newsevents/news/2013/Pages/85million.aspx (£2.8M).
