Significance of output:

A revolutionary approach for efficient nonlinear frequency conversion in continuous-wave fibre lasers using a novel resonator architecture. This scheme, when combined with the power scaling advantages & wavelength flexibility of cladding-pumped fibre lasers, offers a route to difficult-to-access wavelength regimes, for example, in the visible and mid-infrared at unprecedented power levels. The approach has attracted enormous interest within the laser community & has been the topic of a postdeadline paper & two invited papers at leading international conferences. Also, the subject of a patent application (PCT/GB2011/000742) & has been licensed to a UK laser company (Laser Quantum).
