We have demonstrated previously (2001) that boron trifluoride could accelerate the degradation rate of poly-ɛ-caprolactone (PCL). Here we add rigour to our discovery by reporting for the first time the mechanism of degradation and characterising this mechanism via a series of thermo-chemical experimental studies.
