English abstract

The objective of this paper is to assess the determinants of educational achievements in Morocco. The analysis focuses on a number of determinants such as socio-economic characteristics of the student and the characteristics of their school and their peers. The outcomes of interest are performance scores. The paper uses data from the National Survey for the Evaluation of Performances (2008) and the methodology corrects for endogeneity bias. The findings show that social class is the major determinant of achievements. Moreover, other factors such as grade repetition, delays in starting schooling and peer characteristics also have a significant impact on performances.
