E. coli Inactivation by High-Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtered (HIPIMS) Cu Surfaces
Funded by the COST Action on Highly Ionised Pulsed Plasma Processes (MP0804), collaboration with EPFL-Lausanne (Switzerland), this is the first application of HIPIMS in the field of antibacterial coatings. It reports a new way of applying Cu coatings on fabric with unprecedented coverage and improved bacteria killing efficiency. It was the basis for the proliferation of HIPIMS in the field of antibacterial coatings with new materials such as Ag and metal oxides, spurring new developments of photocatalytic coatings in Europe and Japan. It was the basis for two collaborative projects and a number of papers on the topic by the collaborators.
