Additional information

The project was conceived by a small group, primarily Cornell, Smith, Bispham, who with Rich formed the editorial committee. Decisions were taken by the editorial committee, who also had roles in conferences and other work preparatory to the volume (see Smith’s articles in BICS Suppl. 100 and BICS 2005, and Smith and Powell (eds) The Lost Memoirs of Augustus, Swansea, 2009). Smith took particular responsibility for autobiography and for a large group of authors represented in the Origo Gentis Romanae, which the 19th-century editor had omitted. He was solely or jointly responsible for 48 entries, totalling more than 100,000 words.
