The co-operative movement and communities in Britain, 1914-1960: Minding their own business
This major study of the co-operative movement is a single-authored book that involved the collection and analysis of an extensive data set. The broad-based research examines a large body of primary material on the national co-operative movement (including congress proceedings, pamphlets, newspapers and journals). This research involved a detailed examination of balance sheets, committee minutes, correspondence and periodicals of eight local co-operative societies in England, Wales and Scotland. The book is over 100,000 words in length. The project was funded by the R.H. Tawney Fellowship (awarded by the Economic History Society/ Institute of Historical Research).
