Additional information

Lipid nanostructures consisting of periodically folded continuous lipid bilayers similar to cubic biomembranes that are present in intracellular organelles such as endoplasmic reticullum, Golgi apparatus and mitochondria have been prepared. These model systems have been used to provide important data which aids the understanding of how cells cope with extreme conditions of compression and decompression; thereby mimicking biomembrane dynamics of deep sea water organisms. The importance of this work is further evidenced by the invitation of Kulkarni to present this work at the International Conference on Marine Biotechnology at Hangzhou, China.
