The Complete Works of Oscar Wilde Volume VI : Journalism I
Mark Turner and John Stokes had equal shared responsibility for editing both volumes of Wilde’s journalism. Both researched and jointly wrote all aspects of the academic apparatus, including the Introduction, Notes on Commentary and Text, and the Commentary in each volume. Additionally, both equally shared the research and work involved in identifying the new contributions attributed to Wilde and in compiling the Dubia section in volume 7. Initially, Mark Turner had particular responsibility for Wilde’s contributions to Woman’s World in volume 7
This is the first edition of Wilde's collected journalism ever published in scholarly form. It collects and analyses a considerable body of material. In addition to extensive notes and commentary, the volumes include a substantial section of 'dubia', in which the editors suggest a large number of items, hitherto not attributed to Wilde, which may be authored by Wilde, or which bear striking similarity. Similarly, they make the case to remove some items previously ascribed to Wilde. The edition uses primary sources that were extensive and difficult to assess. And it presents a new picture of Wilde as a writer.
