An analytical solution for the radial and tangential displacements on a thin hemispherical layer of articular cartilage
This work develops for the first time an analytical model of the radial and tangential deformations of a hemispherical cartilage using asymptotics and Laplace transforms, which has been validated via biphasic numerical simulations. This approach offers an advantageous unique multiphysics coupling capability with an elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication solver to predict the behaviour of the bio-lubricant mechanics of a hip joint. Exposure of this work in a high impact journal has led to the industrial employment of Dr Felix-Quinonez as a researcher at the SKF Research Laboratories in the Netherlands (Armando.Felix@skf.com).
