Double-weighted statement

This research required the use of extensive primary sources 1913-2012 from the Cambridge Assessment archives and the evaluation of a broad range of secondary material (c 1000 references) to produce an original synopsis of developments in English language pedagogy and assessment in the 20th century and how these were influenced by external socio-economic factors. The case study in Appendix B, tracing text complexity in Cambridge reading tests 1913-2012, required a particularly extensive period of data entry and analysis of contextual parameters involving over two hundred reading tests. Weir was the sole author of Chapters 1-3 (pp1-256), 6 (420-444) and Appendix B (p472-537) and co-authored Chapter 5.
