A Modified Fuzzy Clustering for Documents Retrieval: Application to Document Categorization

The paper proposes a new fuzzy-based clustering algorithm for document categorisation adapted to the specificities of construction projects and discipline oriented documents. This has been used as the categorisation algorithm in the development of two knowledge portals: (a) the UK sustainable building portal (www.sustainablebuildingportal.co.uk) commissioned by the Welsh Government to deliver a one-stop-shop to sustainability resources, and (b) the European construction information portal (www.ExploreConstruction.eu) commissioned by the European Commission to develop a smart and integrated interface to all EU and national construction related resources across member states. Both portals have been officially launched in January 2013.
