Additional information

This collaborative project with Faber and Faber publishing house explores the translation of visual reference from the extensive Faber book illustration archive towards a fashion/textile context. Faber supported and permitted extensive research and use of the archive as a source for this collection of ten different screen printed cashmere jumpers. Internationally renowned cashmere producers Johnstons of Elgin supplied knitted cashmere garment prototypes for the Limited Edition collection producing 100 units over 10 designs. The sampling process is an extensive and rigorous one that requires in depth testing of print processes used while retaining the original handle of the cashmere. Very subtle changes in screen gauge, ratios of dyes, screen pull pressure, and finishing can alter outcomes significantly. In production, printing has to adhere to a stringent process and technical record keeping. The collection was exhibited at Scotland Re-Discovered, London Institute of Contemporary Arts in 2010, a unique event celebrating the most innovative approaches in Scottish textiles. The 40 exhibiting companies included Mackintosh, Begg Scotland, Johnstons of Elgin and Harris Tweed and were shortlisted through a competitive application and selection process. The exhibition was attended by leading UK buyers, textile/fashion luminaries as well as national press and media. David Breckenridge, Chairman of The Scottish Textile Industry Association and Skillset Fashion and Textiles Council member, introduced the event before handing over to guest speaker, Television presenter, Caryn Franklin. The Faber cashmere collection was later showcased at Dressed to Kilt Tartan Week, Hammerstein Ballrooms, New York in 2011 alongside other internationally renowned fashion designers such as House of Holland, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood. Funding was received from Scottish Textiles for both events. The collection has sold globally through online sales and through stockists in Italy, the USA and the UK. International press coverage is cited in design publications (see full press list).
