Additional information

<19> This is the first work to show clearly that there were some profound underlying reasons for a string of attacks on the security of EPC-C1G2 compliant authentication protocols, and to cast serious doubts on the standard itself. It has been seminal in showing that the security of the authentication part of the standard is not only weak, but cannot be repaired without significant changes. Compliance with the standard, which is positive and desirable for many different reasons, makes it impossible to provide any adequate security level, so this work clearly pointed towards a much needed RFID standard update.
