Additional information

<07> This work is the first to reveal a richer landscape of object lifetimes than the traditional generational garbage collection (GC) view. Instead, we show that a program allocation site creates objects with lifetimes in only a small number of narrow ranges. We show that sites cluster strongly in this respect, making exploitation of this observation feasible. This study provides a foundation for advanced GC schemes (explored in EPSRC grant EP/D078342/1) that exploit a richer, allocation-site-specific, promotion path for longer lived objects than the classic young generation to old generation path.
