Keeping the faith: Syriac Christian diasporas
This book is based on extensive and long-term ethnographic fieldwork in Turkey, Germany and Austria over a period of two decades. The analytical insights on the diasporic community at the centre of the book are integrally related to the longitudinal and multi-sited scope of the research, which allows for a unique understanding of the effects of geographical dispersal, political and generational change. Some of the primary source material was collected under difficult circumstances, e.g. those dictated by military restrictions in eastern Turkey in the mid-1990s. The analytical debate presented here is based on cumulative knowledge gathered in over 100 interviews.
