Double-weighted statement

City of Gangs makes an original contribution to historical scholarship. It is 139,000 words in length, and was sole-authored by Andrew Davies. It draws on a vast amount of archival research, undertaken over an extended period, in libraries and archives in Scotland and at the British Library Newspaper Library, London. Primary sources consulted include local newspapers for the period 1918-1939, very few of which have been digitised, along with legal records and poor relief case-files. It offers an original analysis of this material to make a distinctive contribution to the history of twentieth-century Scotland.
