Double-weighted statement
This interdisciplinary volume is the first extended account of the muso-literary relationship between the Beat writers and subsequent generations of rock musicians. It is substantial not only in length—incorporating the equivalent of ten or so new full-length journal articles across 500 pages—but also draws on a decade of research, incorporating a large body of primary sources generated specifically for the project, including seven interviews with key figures (conducted in the US across two separate research visits) which both appear verbatim within the volume and are drawn on extensively in the main body of the text.
