Additional information

This paper gives a new coordinate mapping of the outer boundary layer, unifying three popular analytical formulations. The scientific impact of this work is that it reconciles different descriptions of the same flow phenomenon. Turbulent boundary layers are now representable from a common viewpoint that fits with previous seemingly conflicting interpretations. This high-level viewpoint is a very satisfying position to have achieved as it represents a unifying synthesis of previous theory and will enable us to develop an over-arching coherent representation of the physics.
