Far South
The Far South Project was born in 2006 when Des Barry won a Creative Wales Award to develop it. The brief was to make work that extended the limits of the art form in which the applicant was active. With the availability of the electronic means of creation to extend beyond the published paper page, it seemed logical to extend the novelistic narrative onto the Internet. This novel, which includes film, sound and image files accessible through urls and QR codes printed in the book, is the first of its kind. It represents a collaboration with actors, theatre directors, musicians and web designers. Barry wrote the novel under a heteronym, shot the films and edited them under other heteronyms, and also drew the 30 page graphic novella that is included in the published book and on the website http://www.far-south.org. Diego Vidart made and photographed the installation that forms the background for the website design.
