Additional information

This work on the EU SOCRADES and SODA projects features the pioneering use of Web-services in real-time control systems. Schneider Electric has demonstrated the prototype system to audiences of several thousand people at ITEA, ETFA and other international exhibitions. The results of the project, which won a 2009 ITEA Achievement Award, are being incorporated into commercial DPWS-based software systems with Schneider Electric (armando.colombo@schneider-electric.com). Commercialised in the Modicon STB distributed I/O system, the impact of this type of Internet/Intranet-accessible I/O system is expected to be considerable, e.g. with the industry and infrastructure control sectors accounting for 35% of world energy usage.
