The work reported in this paper was funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (www.most.gov.cn, £250,000, 01/01/2009-31/12/2010) and led to the development of a prototype machine, which has since drawn great interest from aircraft and machine tool industry, including a joint project granted by the State Ministry of Science and Technology, aiming at developing a PKM based device for fuel tank machining of large size carrier rockets (details withheld due to contract). A US patent based on this new concept has been issued (Patent No. US7793564B2).
