Additional information
Research in this paper was carried out in the EU project “BIOCOUP” directly involving Shell (Dr. C. Schaverien, Biorefining Project Leader, PO Box 3800, 1030 BN Amsterdam). Results indicated an irreversible damage to a FCC catalyst contacted with specific oxygenates present in pyrolysis oil. It was possible to identify that ketones must remain excluded from FCC process feeds making FCC otherwise an inappropriate co-processing option. The latter made impact on future strategies in bio-refining at Shell.
