The work reported in this paper was carried out via the project “Sustainable Action on Vehicle Energy”, supported by a grant of approximately £0.6M from the EPSRC Warwick Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre, from June 2008 to September 2011. All of its output was exploited in the £17M Low Carbon Vehicle Technology Programme, a collaboration between Jaguar Land Rover, MIRA, Ricardo, Tata Motors European Technical Centre, Zytek Automotive, Coventry University and the University of Warwick from December 2009 to November 2011, funded by Advantage West Midlands and the European Regional Development Fund.
