Additional information

Here the computationally effective and multi-purpose Harmonic Balance Navier-Stokes (HB-NS) technology for rapidly and accurately calculating periodic flows is used to determine dynamic derivatives for aircraft flight dynamics analysis as an alternative to expensive wind tunnel testing. The technology may reduce aircraft development costs by allowing part of the expensive wind tunnel testing to be replaced with cheaper CFD simulations. Flow analyses were jointly performed by Dr. Campobasso’s and Prof. Badcock’s (Liverpool) groups using different implementations of the HB-NS technology to improve general understanding of this new technology. Research partly funded by EPSRC (EP/D504473/1, EP/F038542/1) and Marie Curie award.
