Additional information

<20> Over 200 papers were submitted to IUI in 2008, of which 15% were accepted. The paper shows how the models of human-computer interaction that underpin modern graphical user interfaces can be extended to accommodate non-standard users. The models can then be used to simulate the performance of users with visual, cognitive and motor disabilities, and to evaluate alternative interface designs. The work inspired a €4.9m European project on user interfaces for disabled and elderly citizens and the Pradipta Biswas' appointment as coordinator of the ITU's focus group on accessibility.
